Structuring a Comparison Answer

GCSE English Language · Comparing Texts and Perspectives

Point-by-Point Method (Recommended)

Compare the two texts on each point in turn:

Attitude to X in Text 1 → then compare to Text 2

Language technique in Text 1 → then compare to Text 2

Tone in Text 1 → then compare to Text 2

Model Comparison Paragraph

"Both writers present [topic] critically. Source A uses the phrase '…' which suggests [interpretation]. Similarly, Source B employs '…' to convey [interpretation]. However, while Source A's tone is [adjective], Source B adopts a more [adjective] approach, perhaps reflecting the different contexts in which they were written."

Key Reminders

Always embed quotes from both texts

Make explicit comparison — don't just describe each text separately

Consider context (when/why the text was written)

Use comparative vocabulary throughout
