How to Write a Critical Evaluation

<h3>The Evaluation Question</h3>

<p>This question asks you to evaluate a statement about the text. You must decide how far you agree, using evidence.</p>

<h3>Framework</h3>

<ol>

<li>State your overall viewpoint — agree, partially agree, or disagree?</li>

<li>Select 3–4 moments from the text as evidence</li>

<li>For each: quote → technique → effect → evaluate how successfully it achieves the stated idea</li>

<li>Consider moments where it is less effective</li>

<li>Conclude by returning to the statement</li>

<h3>Evaluation Vocabulary</h3>

<ul>

<li><strong>Agreement:</strong> effectively / convincingly / powerfully / vividly</li>

<li><strong>Partial:</strong> to some extent / partially / though this is undermined by…</li>
