<h3>1. Apostrophe errors</h3>

<ul>

<li><strong>It's</strong> = it is (contraction) | <strong>Its</strong> = belonging to it</li>

<li><strong>They're</strong> = they are | <strong>Their</strong> = belonging to them | <strong>There</strong> = a place</li>

<li><strong>You're</strong> = you are | <strong>Your</strong> = belonging to you</li>

<li>Never use an apostrophe for a plural: dogs (not dog's)</li>

<h3>2. Run-on sentences</h3>

<p>Two sentences joined without correct punctuation:</p>

<p>"The wind howled the trees bent low." — WRONG</p>

<p>"The wind howled. The trees bent low." — CORRECT</p>

<h3>3. Tense consistency</h3>

<p>Don't switch between past and present tense without reason. Choose one and stick to it throughout.</p>

<li>Separate (not seperate)</li>

<li>Definitely (not definately)</li>

<li>Necessary (one collar, two socks: neCESSary)</li>

<li>Affect (verb) / Effect (noun)</li>

<li>Whose (possession) / Who's (who is)</li>
