Is BBC Bitesize enough on its own?

For understanding a topic for the first time, Bitesize is hard to beat. It is free, it has no ads, it is written clearly and it is produced to a standard most revision sites cannot match. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

The limitation is depth of practice. Bitesize will explain a concept and offer a short quiz to check you followed it. What it does not do is give you a large bank of exam-style questions at different difficulties, mark your extended written answers, or keep a record across weeks of which topics you keep failing.

That matters because understanding and exam performance are different things. Most students who underperform do not misunderstand the material — they have never practised producing an answer that earns the marks, under time pressure, in the format the board uses.

So the useful way to think about it is sequence, not rivalry: learn it on Bitesize, prove it on BrightRevision.

What you gain

What BrightRevision adds

A real question bank

7,000+ exam-style questions by topic and difficulty, marked instantly with the reasoning explained — not a three-question check at the end of a page.

Past papers, marked for you

Real past papers as interactive papers, with written and extended answers marked by AI.

Spaced-repetition flashcards

5,000+ flashcards scheduled so that difficult cards return more often — recall practice over weeks, not a single read-through.

It remembers your weak topics

Tracking across every session builds a picture of your gaps, so your revision is aimed at them.

Exam-board specific

Filter everything to AQA, OCR, Edexcel or Cambridge, and to Foundation or Higher tier.

Mock exams on demand

Build a timed mock by subject, tier and board whenever you want one.

FAQ

Is BBC Bitesize good for GCSE revision?

Yes, particularly for learning or re-learning a topic. It is free, clearly written and has no adverts. Its limitation is practice depth: short topic quizzes rather than a large exam-style question bank, no past-paper marking and no tracking of your weak topics over time.

What does BrightRevision offer that Bitesize does not?

7,000+ auto-marked exam questions by topic and difficulty, real past papers marked by AI (including extended written answers), photo and stylus marking of handwritten work, spaced-repetition flashcards, a mock exam builder and weak-topic tracking across every session.
