<p><strong>Worked Example:</strong> A taxi charges a fixed fee of £3 plus £2 per mile. The formula is C = 2m + 3, where C is the cost and m is the number of miles. What is the cost for 7 miles?</p>

<p>C = 2(7) + 3 = 14 + 3 = £17.</p>

<h2>Writing Your Own Equations</h2>

<p><strong>Worked Example:</strong> I think of a number, double it, and add 9. The answer is 25. What is my number?</p>

<p>Write the equation: 2n + 9 = 25. Solve: 2n = 16, n = 8. The number is 8.</p>

<h2>Function Machines</h2>

<p>A function machine shows operations applied in order. Input → ×3 → +2 → Output. If the input is 5, the output is 5 × 3 + 2 = 17. To work backwards (given output, find input), reverse the operations: 17 → −2 → ÷3 → 5.</p>
